WWE SummerSlam 2019 Results: Goldberg Vs. Dolph Ziggler Was Bad And Nothing Good Will Come From It

WWE SummerSlam 2019 Results: Goldberg Vs. Dolph Ziggler
Goldberg vs. Dolph Ziggler shouldn't have happened at SummerSlam, or anywhere else. It did, and it was as bad as I expected.
Everyone knows Goldberg has to work short matches, which severely handicaps booking for his appearances.
Ziggler is one of the best in-ring performers, but there was no question he was being set up for a slaughter.
It took less than a minute for Goldberg to flatten Ziggler with a spear to get the pinfall victory.
The result was painfully obvious the moment the match was announced, but I might not have had much of an issue with this creative decision had things ended there.
Unfortunately, someone saw fit to have a desperate Ziggler grab the mic while on the canvas, and writhing in pain from the spear, to taunt Goldberg until he walked back down the ramp and destroyed him again.
OK, that was unnecessary, but I'm not completely put off at this point.
This is WWE, so you know there will be more.
Ziggler again calls Goldberg out, who had already disappeared into Gorilla at this point. Goldberg returns and does even more damage, hitting the fiercest of all spears to Ziggler's midsection.
The crowd seemed to get some sort of excitement from it, but I couldn't shake how completely formulaic, and unnecessary the entire match and post-match action was in the grand scheme of things.
This was obviously done to help repair Goldberg's reputation.
He looked really bad in his match against The Undertaker at WWE Super Show Down earlier this year.
Both legends were irked by the collective performance and the fan reaction.
Goldberg was in much better physical shape, at least visually, but he's 52 years old. There are obvious limitations.
The fact is, we shouldn't be gearing up for another high-profile match from Goldberg later this year against anyone.
I understand WWE is preparing for a mega launch of Smackdown on FOX and the network wants access to as many big crossover names as possible, but Goldberg's matches are mostly bad at this point in his career.
Ziggler is the kind of guy who could carry him, had he been allowed to, but WWE smartly went for the safest booking on a bad concept.
Ziggler is so talented, but he's been reduced to joke level at this point, and it's a wonder WWE can get any value out of the angles that he works.
He'll likely antagonize another star soon, only to have this same kind of humiliation repeated.
As for Goldberg, expect him to resurface with a new feud against a huge name, and it'll likely be featured prominently on Smackdown once the blue brand launches on FOX.
I wish that was something wrestling fans could look forward to, but it's not.
